COMMUNITIES, NOT CAPITALISM
If a business cannot exist in harmony with marginalized communities, maybe the world would be better off without that business.
Now more than ever, we must look out for one another. Business has a bad reputation of dehumanizing, undermining dignity and livelihood in the name of seductive financial reports. Namesake does things differently. As we craft beautiful elixirs, we strive to build trust with every interaction. As a result, Seattle, the perfume industry, and beyond might be a bit more equitable with Namesake in the picture.
THE COMMITMENT
Namesake will do everything in its power to uplift, with care and gratitude. If there is ever a demographic that would be better off without Namesake, we will pivot to make it right, or close up shop.
CURRENT EFFORTS
Your purchase empowers: 20% of every Limited Edition bottle purchased on NamesakeFragrance.com will be passed on to Seattle's BIPOC communities. That's $5 from each 8ML, and $20 from each 50ML.
Indigenous compensation for land use: Monthly rent is paid to the Duwamish Tribe, the people whose land Namesake and the City of Seattle occupy.
Queer, BIPOC owned and operated: That’s me, Nick Vu =)
FUTURE INTENTIONS
Amplifying BIPOC artists: We are allies, not competitors. Namesake is building its platform with the end goal of uplifting noteworthy BIPOC artists.
Equitable pay: When people are equally valued, their time is equally valued. If/when Namesake invests in employees, everyone will receive the same compensation, owner and intern alike.
BIPOC mentorship: Investing in marginalized youth by sharing the craft of perfuming and business development.
NAMESAKE’S CODE of EMPOWERMENT
1. BUILD TRUST
Earn confidence: It is the measuring stick for every decision. Am I gaining or losing the trust of customers, collaborators, and the community?
Relentless positivity: We will encourage, support, and amplify the people we think need to be seen. We will not participate in cancel culture or gatekeeping apart from quietly distancing ourselves when encountering misalignment.
2. REFLECT
Take the time to understand: Reflect on where we come from, where we are, and where we’re going.
Seek integrity: Move with humility, honest, and gratitude.
3. MAKE STYLISH MOVES
The aesthetics of generosity: Don’t just do the right thing, do it with grace, care, and precision.
Cultivate serendipity: Go the extra mile, make someone’s day, set the stage for amazing surprises.
